The sampler makes sure that the beacons are set in the right positions, being: at the starting point, at 10 metres and at 60 metres of the starting point. From the location pointed out by the sampler, the helper makes sure he can be seen by the handler and the dog. The escape must be done quickly and the helper must stay in sight of the dog. After sending the dog, the handler must walk up to the beacon that is set at 10 metres distance of the starting point and after arriving at this position, give the dog the command to return. This is done after the dog has reached the 60 metre beacon. The handler must have given the command before the dog has reached the position were the handler is in sight. After the command to return has been given, the dog has to come back immediately and quickly to the handler.
In my opinion, this exercise should be cut out of the official regulations at once! This exercise is not done in any of the police dog training given in surrounding countries. It has a bad impact on the dog, many good dogs were ruined during the execution of this exercise. You search or you do not search, you fire a gun or you do not fire a gun. After all, once a bullet is fired, it is not possible to recall this bullet on its way!
