Scaling-jump over a slanted wall part [2]
The climbing jump over the fence according to the KNPV rules is much more difficult than the IPO exercise. The height of the fence is also 175 centimetres, but here the fence is a vertical wall and the starting position for the dog is only 1 metre in front of the fence. It is not possible for the dog to run up to the fence, at the IPO the starting position is several metres in front of the fence.
The KNPV dog must therefore jump up very steep, throw his front legs over the upper side of the fence and pull himself over the fence. This is purely based on the skill and routine, this is how a service dog gets over a wall. There is no fetching and bringing in this exercise, but obviously, the dog will do this in every day life, after all, he has been taught to fetch and bring all kinds of objects.
Just like in learning to jump over the hedge, here is started with a low fence that is gradually made higher. If the dog is not willing, or is afraid, two helpers with both a leash, can stand both at one side of the fence and make the dog go over the fence although I much more prefer a dog that does not need this help. It takes a fare bit of courage for the dog to learn this exercise without stress and other rubbish!
